5 unusual activities to do in Paris
Paris is one of the most popular destinations in the world, receiving the visit of millions of tourists from around the world all year long. Known as the City of Light and with ´modern´ being its flagship adjective, it´s the cradle of European culture in terms of the arts and also one of the main places for cuisine on the continent.

We would like to recommend the following ´unusual´ plans for Paris, to make it a bit different from all the typical things.
Père Lachaise cemetery
We recommend that you visit this pretty famous place, one of the most well-known cemeteries in the city, the Cimetière du Père Lachaise, where people like Oscar Wilde, Maria Callas, Jim Morrison or Edith Piaf rest.
The mausoleum that this cemetery has is a must and, generally speaking, this enclave is a huge work of art.
No doubt about it, it will be an unforgettable experience in your trip to Paris.
The catacombs of Paris
The catacombs of Paris have over 300km (186 miles) of corridors, which at first were a series of tunnels that went underground in Paris that derived fron ancient mines.
Around six million bodies of Parisian citizens were moved to the catacombs. Some of the parts that are open to the public, a mile or two, are of great interest to all visitors.
What you can see here are the remains, mostly bones, craniums, sculptures and other pieces placed in an artistic way forming mountains or specific symbols.
Following the lines of this article, there´s also a less ´touristy´ route that´s not officially open to the public that you can go on but that´s forbidden. Be aware that if you decide to take that route you could be fined and/or arrested.
Paris by bicycle
There are many bike lanes that are exclusive to the two wheels for bike users and tourists that want to have a different perspective of Paris on this vehicle.
The city puts at our disposal the Velib service through the internet, that allows you to rent bicycles throughout the city, making up a system strong in numbers to bring an ecological, healthy and cheap way of transport.
Travelling with kids is also a great idea since the bicycles can be rented with special children´s seats so they too can enjoy the views of the City of Light.
Enjoy authentic carousels
In Paris there are many carousels of great beauty that can also be an alternative plan to take into account during our stay in Paris
- In the Jardin des Plantes, there´s a carousel for the kids decorated with dinosaurs and other animals.
- In the Jardin des Tuileries, there´s a majestic carousel that adults too can enjoy.
- By the Eiffel Tower, we can come across a carousel that´s the typical one with animals that you can ride.
Fête de la musique
A festival called The Music Festival (Fête de la Musique in French) isn´t the typical musical event but rather a cultural activity that takes place in July, even on the metro, and many services such as bars stay open practically all night long.
They invite all sorts of musicians, famous and emerging, professional and amateurs, and they represent different districts in a festival that becomes a huge party that´s free and of long duration. It goes on from the afternoon to well into the night with background music that wills you on to have fun.
Bastille Day
If in the USA they celebrate Independence Day on the 4th of July, in France they celebrate the fall of the Bastille prison, which took place on July 14th 1789.
There´s a military parade on the Champs-Elysées and then the party moves to all the districts, especially to the fire stations that open their doors so you can party there for a modest sum of 20 euros.
